What exactly is Gelato? And, how is it different from Ice Cream? Gelato IS NOT water-ice and soft-serve vanilla mixed in a cup. Gelato IS the original Ice Cream. If you've never had Gelato before, Gelato will completely alter your perception of what a Great ice cream should be.

To understand Gelato, you need to understand what goes into ice cream:

Any "ice cream" will have these few basic components:

  • Sugars
  • Milk (Fat, milk solids, water)
  • Air

Optionally, ice cream may also contain:

  • Flavorings (vanilla), and variegates (pieces of fruits, nuts, candy)
  • Coloring (Artificial and/or natural)

Gelato has a few characteristics that set it apart from American-style ice cream:

  • Because of the way Gelato is made, or "batched", the batching process introduces less air into the Gelato, giving it a more substantial presence.

Scoop shops and national chains are pushing ice cream containing an increasing level of fat, calling their products "Super-Premium". Gelato, as ALWAYS, contains about half the fat of ice cream, which gives Gelato two distinct traits:

  • Due to the decreased fat content, Gelato has a slightly higher serving temperature than that of ice cream, giving Gelato its wonderful, soft, smooth texture.
  • Gelato, when consumed at it's serving temperature, will not freeze your taste buds, as ice cream does, allowing you to enjoy the full spectrum of flavor contained in the Gelato.

Utilizing modern technology, but sticking to "tried-and-true" Italian recipes and techniques and the highest quality ingredients, allow us to consistently produce the smoothest, creamiest, most flavorful Gelato that you'll ever have.

Our Gelato is produced in the spirit of all that is Italian, bringing ice cream unrivalled in flavor, richness, nutrition and quality to Southern New Jersey, and the Philadelphia region, and continuing a history of making people happy for over 2000 years.
